Karrie Webb to Compete in Her First U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship

Karrie Webb, World Golf Hall of Fame member, has filed an entry to compete in the upcoming U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship as a fully exempt player. She will compete in her first U.S. Senior Women’s Open at San Diego Country Club, in Chula Vista, Calif., Aug. 21-24, 2025.

Webb, who became eligible for the championship after turning 50 in December, brings one of the most decorated résumés in women’s golf. The Australian native owns 41 LPGA Tour victories, including seven major championships. She burst onto the LPGA scene in 1996, earning Rookie of the Year honors and launching a Hall of Fame career that has spanned nearly three decades.

Among her many accolades, Webb is one of just seven players to win consecutive U.S. Women’s Open titles, having done so in 2000 and 2001. She remains one of only three Australian women to hoist the Harton S. Semple Trophy.

Webb has competed in 24 U.S. Women’s Opens, making her debut in 1996 at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club. She returned to Pine Needles in 2001 to successfully defend her title, finishing as the only player under par that week. Her dominance extended well beyond the majors — Webb enjoyed a historic run on the LPGA Tour in 1999 and 2000, amassing 13 victories across two seasons. In 1999, she recorded an astounding 22 top-10 finishes, and in 2000, she captured her second consecutive Rolex Player of the Year award. That same year, she became the first player since Beth Daniel in 1990 to win seven tournaments in a single season.

"I was by no means in a hurry to be old enough to play in the U.S. Senior Women’s Open, but now that time has come, I’m excited to be competing in my first,” said Webb. “This championship brings together so many players I’ve admired and competed against throughout my career, and to now join them in this next chapter is really special. I’m excited for the challenge and incredibly honored to tee it up in a USGA championship once again."

Webb is the only player in history to win five different majors. Her victories include the Weetabix Women’s British Open (1995, 1997), Kraft Nabisco Championship (2000), U.S. Women’s Open (2000, 2001), LPGA Championship (2001) and the Women’s British Open (2002). With these victories Webb became the seventh woman in history to achieve the career Grand Slam.

Online entry applications for the Senior Women’s Open began on Feb.12, and closed on Wednesday, June 4. The USGA received more than 400 entries for the championship for the fourth time.

The U.S. Senior Women’s Open is open to any female professional or amateur who is 50 years of age on or before Aug. 21, and whose Handicap Index® does not exceed 7.4.
