Team Wisconsin Victorious at USNDP Midwest Sentry Showcase at SentryWorld

It was home cooking for Team Wisconsin at the USNDP Midwest Sentry Showcase over Fourth of July weekend at SentryWorld. State Junior Teams from Ohio, Minnesota and Wisconsin met at the resort for friendly team competition over two days. Eight athletes (four boys and four girls) from each state made the trip.

“We have a wonderful group of kids, and I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know them and coach them with Molly (Braid) this year,” said Barrett Kelpin, Team Wisconsin coach. “To have them come together and play great as a team at a wonderful venue this week was everything we hoped for going in. I’m looking forward to spending more time with the kids this year and hopefully many more great years of Team Wisconsin, we’re off to a great start.”

Competition began Friday with mixed four-ball stroke play and ended with singles stroke play on Saturday. Teams counted the total score of every four-ball pairing and dropped the highest boy’s and girl’s score in individual stroke play.

Team Wisconsin shot 30-under over the two-days, including 28-under during Friday’s mixed four-ball stroke play. Payton Haugen and Peyton Albers shot 13-under 59 on Friday.

Albers, who will head to North Dakota State this fall, shot an 8-under 64 that included a double-bogey. Haugen, who will play golf at Michigan State this fall, won the Wisconsin Women’s Open just two weeks ago at SentryWorld. Lola Appleby, a USNDP Grant athlete, and Kade Wieland, who qualified for the 2026 U.S. Junior Amateur shot 10-under.”

Three Team Wisconsin boys were in red figures during the Saturday singles, including Vincent Sigl who shot 5-under 67.

After Friday’s mixed four-ball stroke play, the teams took part in a Q&A session with Team Ohio Captain Therese Hession, longtime women’s golf head coach at Ohio State and former LPGA Tour player.

It was the second U.S. National Development Program event at SentryWorld. In 2024, SentryWorld hosted an international friendly match between the U.S. National Junior Team and Australia.

Four USNDP Grant Athletes competed at SentryWorld. Sentry Insurance is a proud partner of the U.S. National Development Program and helps fund the grant program.

Team Ohio, Team Minnesota and Team Wisconsin are three of the current 17 USNDP State Junior Teams with rosters. 14 states were added in the fall of 2025 and will have their teams by the end of 2026.
