Celebrity Sightings Possible at Bel-Air, Site of 123rd U.S. Women’s Am
Bel-Air Country Club, site of the 123rd U.S. Women’s Amateur, is famous for a couple of things: the iconic swinging bridge that connects the tee and green of the par-3 10th hole and its membership roll that includes a who’s who of celebrities. That list includes the likes of Jack Nicholson, Tom Cruise, Jason Bateman and Al Michaels. The late Hall-of-Fame voice of the Dodgers, Vin Scully, also called Bel-Air home.
More recently, Jamie Widdoes, who played the character Hoover in the 1979 comedy classic Animal House, served as the club’s president.
So, there’s a chance that any or all of the 156 competitors could bump into a Hollywood actor/actress in the grill room or while playing the classic George C. Thomas layout.
As for the woman who emerges with the Robert Cox Trophy at week’s end: she’ll definitely have more than 15 minutes of fame.
