Final Qualifying: Shot 68 at New Haven Country Club, in Hamden, Conn., on May 27
The Swede will make his sixth U.S. Senior Open start after getting into the field as the first alternate from the New Haven Country Club site. Haeggman had shot 68 in final qualifying, then beat amateur Trevor Randolph in a 2-for-1 playoff for the top alternate spot. Haeggman turned professional at 19, having represented his country on the junior level. He won the French Open Amateur Stroke Play Championship in 1988. As a professional, he competed primarily on the European Tour (now DP World Tour), resgistering three of his 11 worldwide victories. His last on the circuit came in the 2004 Qatar Masters. He also owns a pair of European Senior Tour victories. He did represent Europe in the 1993 Ryder Cup.
