Reigning U.S. Senior Am Champ White Looking to Double Up in N.Y.
Less than 24 hours after hoisting the Frederick L. Dold Trophy as the 2023 U.S. Senior Amateur champion, Todd White walked into his classroom at Spartanburg (S.C.) High School following an overnight flight from Reno, Nev. Toting golf clubs and his suitcase, the 55-year-old member of the history department taught several of his American Government classes before getting some much-needed sleep. He even found time to go through the more than 180 congratulatory text messages, some from people he didn’t know had his cell number. The 2013 USA Walker Cupper is continuing his late-summer whirlwind this week in Westchester (N.Y.) County, competing in the 42nd U.S. Mid-Amateur. White flew into the area late Wednesday after teaching several classes. He’s going for the rare U.S. Mid-Am/Senior Am double, a feat that has never been accomplished in USGA history. Should he prevail this week, he’d be the first to win a U.S. Amateur Four-Ball, U.S. Mid-Amateur and U.S. Senior Amateur. Now that’s some history.
