F-1: Winner of 2016 U.S. Senior Open
Two years after losing a three-hole aggregate playoff to Colin Montgomerie at Oak Tree National Golf Club, in Oklahoma, Sauers broke through and won the U.S. Senior Open in a Monday finish at Scioto Country Club, in Columbus, Ohio. Sauers edged Billy Mayfair and Miguel Angel Jimenez by one stroke. It remains his only victory on the senior circuit. The former Georgia Southern standout posted three victories on the PGA Tour: 1986 Bank of Boston Classic, 1989 Hawaiian Open and 2002 Air Canada Championship. From 2006-10, Sauers did not compete after being diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson syndrom, a rare skin disorder that gives those afflicted just a 25 percent chance at survival. After receiving multiple skin grafts, Sauers was able to return to competition. In 2013, he was twice a runner-up on the Nike Tour (now Korn Ferry Tour).
