2024 Championship | Richard Bland, of England, rallied in the weather-delayed final round to defeat Hiroyuki Fujita in a playoff at historic Newport (R.I.) Country Club. Bland carded a 4-under 66 in a round that was not completed until Monday morning due to a Sunday afternoon storm. Fujita had led the previous three rounds, but stumbled in the restart on Monday. After the two remained tied after the two-hole aggregate playoff and first sudden-death playoff hole, Bland eventually prevailed by nearly holing a greenside bunker shot on the 18th hole. His part was good enough to give him the victory. To read more, click here. |
Quotable | “I think this one’s going to take a little while [to sink in]. Your first two senior tournaments to be majors, and to come out on top … I was just hoping going into the [Senior] PGA that I was good enough to contend. I hadn’t played against these guys...But, yeah, to [stand] here with two [senior] majors is … I’m at a loss for words at the moment now.” -- Richard Bland |
Fast Fact | The Broadmoor sits at 6,300 feet above sea level, which will make it challenging for the competitors to dial in their yardages in the high altitude. |
