F-27: Winner of 2009 U.S. Senior Open
Bio
Funk claimed the 2009 U.S. Senior Open in record fashion, shooting 20-under-par 268 at Crooked Stick Golf Club. He also has finished second on four other occasions, including the year before his victory. The Maryland-born Funk first attended the University of Maryland, but when he was cut from the golf team in 1975, he transferred to a junior college before returning to Maryland two years later. He turned pro in 1981, but briefly served as the golf coach at his alma mater from 1982-88. He finally became a full-time member of the PGA Tour in 1989, winning eight times. That included The Players Championship in 2005. As a member of PGA Tour Champions, Funk produced nine more victories. Besides his U.S.Senior Open victory, he also captured the Jeld-Wen Tradition twice, in 2008 and 2010. Funk's son, Taylor, also is an accomplished golfer who played for the University of Texas. Funk represented the U.S. in one Ryder Cup and two Presidents Cups.
