Stricker Main Attraction at SentryWorld for Fans

When Steve Stricker arrived at the 10th tee for his 8:34 a.m. starting time you would have thought Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were playing the U.S. Senior Open at SentryWorld. Fans surrounded the entire tee box, and the small grandstand was completely full. “Welcome back to Stevens Point!” one spectator yelled. Stricker smiled and tipped his cap. This week, the Madison, Wis., resident is a rock star. And for good reason. He’s the hottest player on the PGA Tour Champions with four victories, including the year’s first two majors. A victory here would give Stricker, 56, a second U.S. Senior Open title – he also won in 2019 – and a chance to become the first player in Tour history to claim all five senior majors in a calendar year. And if he is holding the Francis D. Ouimet Trophy on Sunday afternoon, you can bet there will be one heckuva celebration in the state.
