Four members of the U.S. National Development Program (USNDP) have traveled to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to compete in this week’s 20th South American Amateur Open. The competition runs Thursday through Sunday.
Jude Lee, Angela Zhang and Emerie Schartz will be representing the U.S. National Junior Team. Avery Schartz, who is Emerie’s younger sister and a USNDP Grant recipient, is the fourth member of the traveling squad.
The 72-hole, stroke-play event is being conducted at Nordelta Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus design 20 miles outside of Buenos Aires.
Chris Zambri, head coach of the USNDP, and assistant coach Tiffany Joh, traveled with the competitors.
“The opportunity for us to travel to a prestigious event like this is what the USNDP is about,” Zambri said. “Competing in a field as strong as this is a reward for our athletes’ work and a chance to measure ourselves at the highest level.”
The trip to Argentina is another milestone in the USNDP’s mission to provide America’s top juniors with the resources, competition and guidance they need to thrive.
