USNJT’s Schremmer Runner-up in South American Amateur

Scarlett Schremmer, 18, of Birmingham, Ala., and a member of the USGA’s inaugural U.S. National Junior Team continued her ascension in women’s golf with a runner-up finish at the 2025 South American Women's Amateur that concluded on Sunday in Santiago, Chile.

Schremmer, one of four USNJT members (two males and two females) sent by the USGA to the 72-hole, stroke-play competition held at Club de Golf Los Leones, posted a 5-under-par total of 283. The No. 117 player in the Women’s World Amateur Golf Ranking®/WAGR® finished 12 strokes back of University of Arkansas All-American and 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur semifinalist Maria Jose Marin, of Colombia, who is No. 6 in the WAGR.

The highlight of the championship for the Texas A&M University signee was a second-round 64. Schremmer reached the Round of 16 at both the U.S. Women’s Amateur and U.S. Girls’ Junior this past summer.

Rylee Knaub, 18, of DeBary, Fla., who is headed to Louisiana State University this fall, finished in a tie for 10th at 4-over-par 292.

On the men’s side, Michael Riebe, 18, of Encinitas, Calif., a Vanderbilt University signee, tied for sixth a 5-under 283. Riebe finished eight strokes back of Benjamin Fernandez, of Paraguay. Will Hartman, 18, of Marvin, N.C., a 2023 U.S. Junior Amateur semifinalist who will be a teammate of Riebe at Vanderbilt this fall, tied for 57th at 11-over 299.

Back in the U.S., another USNJT member, 16-year-old Gianna Clemente, of Estero, Fla., finished third in the 99th South Atlantic Ladies Amateur (SALLY) at Oceanside Country Club, in Ormond Beach, Fla., with a 72-hole total of 2-over-par 290. Two other USNJT members, Mia Hammond, of New Albany, Ohio, and Angela Zhang, of Bellevue, Wash., were ninth and 10th, respectively.
