FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Organizing a volunteer force of nearly 500 individuals is an enormous task that requires detailed planning. Given the significant level of interest in volunteering for this event, in an effort to provide the most equitable registration process possible, all volunteer opportunities will be fulfilled through a random selection process. The deadline to apply to volunteer at the 50th Walker Cup has now passed, and the application process is officially closed.

One volunteer committee, the Standard Bearers, is designated for junior volunteers, ages 13 to 17 years old.  This committee requires a very limited number of volunteers and may be fulfilled locally through existing junior golf programs.

Volunteers will receive two (2) Peter Millar polos, one (1) Peter Millar outerwear piece, and headwear to serve as their apparel.  Men’s polos and outerwear are available in small through XX-large.  Women’s sizes for shirts and jackets are extra small through XX-large. It is important you indicate whether you want Men’s or Women’s sizes.

No, we do not have any apparel in stock for volunteers to try on; however, many department stores carry similar options.  Sizing runs “true to size.”

The general volunteer apparel is currently being designed. Once finalized, samples will be provided on the volunteer website.

Volunteers within the continental United States will have the option to have their apparel shipped directly to their home for an additional fee. For those that prefer not to have their uniform shipped to their home, or for individuals living outside the continental United States, an apparel pick-up date and location will be determined as we get closer to the Match.

There will be limited opportunity for volunteers to exchange their apparel for another size.  The date(s), time and location are still TBD.  More information will become available once apparel is distributed.

You are required to wear the apparel you purchased while volunteering.  All components of the volunteer apparel were designed by Peter Millar for the 2025 Walker Cup volunteer program and are not for sale to those who do not participate or are selected to volunteer.  On days when you are NOT volunteering, we suggest you wear other attire, outside of your volunteer apparel.

Volunteers are encouraged to wear khaki pants while volunteering.

We ask that you wear comfortable shoes, since a majority of volunteers will be standing for long periods of time. Tennis shoes, for example, would be fine. Metal spikes are not permitted.

All volunteer committee assignments will be final once made available. We will attempt to assign each volunteer to one of their committee preferences; however, in many cases this will not be possible due to the requests for certain committees greatly outnumbering the staffing requirements of the committees.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to receive text updates regarding weather delays, local traffic, etc. during the week of the Match and can select this preference as part of the volunteer registration process should they be selected to volunteer.

The exact parking locations are still being determined and will be released in the spring of 2025. There will be complimentary shuttles running continuously from each parking lot to the course. PARKING WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ON-SITE AT CYPRESS POINT CLUB.

Unfortunately, there are no golf privileges for volunteers at this time.

All volunteers are required to work a minimum of two (2), 6-hour shifts, over the three days (September 5-7, 2025) and will be responsible for arriving at their assigned position on time. The USGA will conduct training sessions, either online or in person, prior to the Match. Volunteers are expected to attend their respective volunteer training session which will generally take place on a weekend or in the evening and last approximately one hour.

We will use the information collected during volunteer registration, if selected, to create schedules for each committee. Volunteers may be emailed in the spring of 2025 to confirm their availability. You will be notified of the dates you are scheduled to volunteer in early summer of 2025.  As always, we will make every effort to accommodate your availability preferences; however, we cannot guarantee that each request will be granted. If you are traveling from out of state and made travel arrangements, please indicate your availability accordingly.

Training sessions will take place in summer of 2025. A presentation on both general volunteer and committee specific responsibilities will be provided. Most information will be shared electronically via e-mail, through an interactive online presentation, or at the Match itself, depending on the volunteer committee assignment.

As an integral part of the Walker Cup, volunteers are given the opportunity to communicate through day-to-day interactions with USGA staff or by completing a survey after the Match. In most cases, the results and comments are very positive. Often, volunteers will echo their sentiments towards the unique experience volunteering afforded them during the week of the event and how exciting it was to be actively involved in such a historic event. In some instances, volunteers will provide constructive feedback on how to improve the volunteer experience. USGA staff thoroughly reads through each survey and takes into consideration all the feedback, both good and bad, to improve the volunteer program and experience for future events.
