Automatic USA Walker Cup and World Amateur Team Selections Set for June 18

The three highest-ranked American players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® / WAGR® as of the Week 24 update, scheduled for Wednesday, June 18, will receive automatic selections from the USGA onto the 2025 USA Walker Cup Team.

The 50th Walker Cup Match will be played at Cypress Point Club, in Pebble Beach, Calif., Sept. 6-7, 2025. The Match is played over two days with 18 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate-shot) matches.

The USGA’s International Team Selection Working Group (ITS) may name a second set of additional players to the Walker Cup Team prior to the U.S. Amateur Championship.

The ITS Working Group will name the final selections to the team and alternates immediately following the U.S. Amateur. The winner of the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship, set to take place Aug. 11-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., and the recipient of the 2025 McCormack Medal, should they be American, will earn the final automatic spots onto the team, which will be captained by Nathan Smith, winner of a record four U.S. Mid-Amateur Championships.

The USGA will also name one player for both the men’s and women’s USA World Amateur Teams as of the Week 24 WAGR update. This selection will be for the highest ranked player on each respective WAGR ranking. The 2025 World Amateur Team Championships (WATC) will be held this October at Tanah Merah Country Club in Singapore.

The winners of the 2025 U.S. Amateur Championship and 2025 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, set to take place Aug. 4-10 at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort (Ore.), and the recipients of the 2025 McCormack Medals, should they be American, will also earn the final automatic spots onto the USA World Amateur Teams. The men’s team will be captained by Stu Francis, USGA past president, and the women’s team by Kendra Graham, former USGA executive committee member.

These and any final team selections and alternates for the WATC will be selected by the USGA Team Selection Committee immediately following the U.S. Amateur Championship.

If an automatic selection declines any of these invitations, the spot will be offered to the next player based on the Week 24 WAGR update.
