Fang and Stout Named to 2025 USA Walker Cup Team
Ethan Fang, 20, of Plano, Texas, and Preston Stout, 21, of Dallas, Texas, were named to the 2025 USA Walker Cup Team by the USGA’s International Team Selection (ITS) working group on Friday.
The duo joins Jackson Koivun, Ben James and Michael La Sasso, who previously earned automatic selections to the 10-player roster as the three highest-ranked American players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® / WAGR® as of June 18. The USA Team will compete against Great Britain and Ireland in the 50th Walker Cup Match on Sept. 6-7 at the Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif.
“Ethan and Preston are excellent additions to further solidify this year’s team,” said Nathan Smith, captain of the USA Team. “These two players have worked tirelessly to put themselves in a position to be selected to this team and I’m thrilled to see their hard work rewarded. I look forward to having them on our side at Cypress Point.”
Ethan Fang, 20, of Plano, Texas, captured the 130th Amateur Championship at Royal St. George’s, in England, becoming the first American in 18 years to win the oldest amateur competition. The rising junior helped Oklahoma State claim the 2025 NCAA Division I title, posting a 2-1 record in match play, including a 1-up victory over Bryan Lee, of Virginia, in the championship match. Fang advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2024 U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National and reached the Round of 16 at the 2022 U.S. Junior Amateur at Bandon Dunes. He played one season at the University of California-Berkeley before transferring to Oklahoma State University in the fall of 2024.
Preston Stout, 21, of Dallas, Texas, recently won the 2025 Northeast Amateur at Wannamoisett Country Club, in Rumford, RI, by eight strokes. The rising junior at Oklahoma State University helped the Cowboys win the 2025 NCAA Division I title, going 2-1 in match play. He defeated NCAA individual champion La Sasso (Ole Miss) in the semis, 5 and 4, and Oklahoma standout Jase Summy in the quarterfinals. Stout also won the 2024 and 2025 Big 12 Conference individual titles, qualified for match play at the 2023 and 2024 U.S. Amateurs and finished third as an individual in the 2025 NCAA Division I Championships.
The USGA’s International Team Selection working group (ITS) will name additional players to the Walker Cup Team immediately following the U.S. Amateur Championship. The winner of the 2025 U.S. Amateur, set to take place Aug. 11-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif., and the recipient of the 2025 McCormack Medal, should they be American, will earn the final automatic spots onto the team.
The Walker Cup Match is a 10-man amateur team competition between the USA and Great Britain and Ireland. Cypress Point Club previously hosted the 1981 Walker Cup, when the USA defeated GB&I, 15-9.
