The three highest-ranked American players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking® / WAGR® as of the Wednesday, June 21, update will receive automatic selections from the USGA onto the 2023 USA Walker Cup Team.
The 49th Walker Cup Match will be played on the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland, Sept. 2-3, 2023. The Match is played over two days with 18 singles matches and eight foursomes (alternate-shot) matches.
The USGA’s International Team Selection Working Group (ITS) will name a second set of additional players to the Walker Cup Team in mid-to-late July.
The ITS Committee will name the final selections to the team and alternates immediately following the U.S. Amateur. The winner of the 2023 U.S. Amateur Championship, set to take place Aug. 14-20 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Colorado, and the recipient of the 2023 McCormack Medal, should they be American, will earn the final automatic spots onto the team, which will be captained by Mike McCoy, winner of the 2013 U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship.
Any final team selections and alternates will be selected by the ITS immediately following the U.S. Amateur.
